About Chinook Screw Piles

A locally owned, insured screw pile company working out of Calgary. Here is what we build, why the ground in southern Alberta calls for it, and how we run a job.

Why We Started

Helical screw piles are the whole focus at Chinook Screw Piles, installed throughout Calgary and southern Alberta. For homeowners and builders that means footings under decks, garages and additions, plus underpinning where an existing footing has begun to shift. For commercial and industrial clients it means grade beams, solar arrays and wellsite foundations.

Local soil explains why this trade exists at all. Calgary winters push frost deep into the ground, and the clay across the north and east of the city swells when wet and shrinks when dry, season after season. Anything resting in that upper band rides the movement. A screw pile carrying its load from beneath it stays put. How deep that band runs on your lot is a question for the site investigation, not a brochure.

Our difference is that the proof comes with the pile. Torque measured during installation reveals the capacity each pile really reached, so we record it and hand the sheet over at the end. Without that reading, you have a length of steel and a promise.

Sometimes the honest answer is that you should hire someone else, or nobody. A low deck sitting close to grade may not need engineered piles at all, a small shed can often rest on skids, and where bedrock sits shallow another foundation type can suit better. Telling you that loses one job and tends to win the one after.

Included With Each Installation

  • Measured torque for each screw pile, alongside the capacity that reading confirms.
  • Drawings stamped by an APEGA-registered engineer whenever your permit asks for them.
  • An as-built record of where each pile ended up and how deep it went.
  • A phone call, mid-job, if the soil behaves unlike what we planned for, so the decision is yours before work continues.
